Looking at your own life, what do you to maintain your health and happiness? Different people give different answers to this question. Here are some that individuals give.

The specific things I do to get the
maintenance right in my life are to:

Eat the right food … Get enough sleep … Organise my time properly … Do regular exercise … Get enough money to support our lifestyle. 

Spend quality time with the family … Spend time with positive people … Do satisfying work … Have regular health checks.

People need enough money to maintain their lives on an economic level. They also need enough encouragement to thrive on an emotional level. Failing to do so may affect their health and happiness.

Barbara Fredrickson’s work on positivity, for example, shows that having positive emotions increases our ability to live flourishing lives. The key is to increase:

The amount of positive emotions we have in relation to negative emotions.

We need a ratio of around 3 to 1 to lift us, says Barbara. This increases our resilience and ability to flourish. Unfortunately for many people the ratio is 2 to 1. For some it is 1 to 1 or less.
