The Decide, Develop And Deliver Approach

There are many ways to live life. One approach is for a person to decide to work towards achieving a specific goal. They will then aim to keep developing and do their best to deliver.

They may aim to follow a healthy lifestyle, develop a skill, build a business, tackle a challenge or achieve another goal. This can involve focusing on the following themes.

Decide

Looking back, can you recall a situation when you decided to work towards a specific goal? What was the process you went through to make the decision? How did you then do your best to achieve the goal?

Different people make decisions in different ways. Some may have a Eureka Moment when they decide to change their life. They may then do what is required to achieve their goal.

Some people decide to work towards a goal because they see the positive benefits. They may aim to live longer, be happier, help other people or have other motives.

Some people take a considered approach. They may then follow The Three C Model. This involves focusing on the following themes.

Whatever approach you take, it can also useful to do a motivation rating. This involves aiming:

To clarify the specific goal you want to achieve and the benefits of achieving the goal;

To clarify the pluses and minuses involved in working to achieve the goals together with how to build on the pluses and minimise the minuses;

To, bearing these in mind, clarify your motivation rating – on a scale 0-10 – to do your best to achieve the goal.

Imagine that you have worked through some of these stages. You may then want to do the following exercise.

Let’s assume that you have worked through these stages. You may then aim to move into action. Sometimes this can also involve focusing on the following theme.

You Can Do Your Best

Great workers aim to do their best each day. They aim to prepare properly, rehearse what they are going to do and move into action. They then aim to be fully present, get an early success and build momentum.

You Can Be Disciplined

Great workers aim to be disciplined and follow good habits. They do this whether they are aiming to develop a healthy lifestyle, do superb work or achieve peak performance.

You Can Keep Developing

Great workers are committed to continuous improvement. They keep reading reality and aim: a) to build on what is going well; b) to tackle areas for improvement.

Imagine that you are continuing to develop. You may then enter the final strait and focus on the next theme.

Deliver

Great workers deliver the goods. They aim to follow their chosen strategies and do superb work. They find solutions to challenges and do their best to achieve the desired picture of success.

Imagine that you want to do this in your own way. One approach is to follow your successful pattern for finishing. Bearing in mind the goal you want to achieve, this involves focusing on the following themes.

You can learn from your positive history and recall a time when you set a specific goal and finished something successfully.

You can clarify the principles you followed then – and how you translated these into action – to finish successfully.

You can clarify how you can follow similar principles – plus maybe add other skills – to work towards your present goal and finish successfully.

If appropriate, you can then apply yourself fully. Sometimes you may go into your equivalent of the zone. You may then aim to flow, focus and finish successfully.
