
There are many ways to focus on a person’s personality. One approach is to use three words to describe their spirit. There are several definitions for a person’s spirit. These include the following.
The spirit of a person is characterised by their personality – their attitude, abilities and actions.
The way that a person then behaves can create a certain atmosphere and have a certain effect on other people.
The spirit of a person is something that other people pick up on. On one level it is intangible but on another level it has a tangible effect on people.
Sometimes it can be hard to define these effects but there are exercises that can help. One of these is to look at a specific person and focus on the following theme.

Imagine that you are looking at three different people. Here are some of the words you may use to describe each person’s spirit.
Person A – Positive … Encouraging … Uplifting.
Person B – Mean … Cruel … Selfish.
Person C – Alive … Creative … Exciting.
As mentioned earlier, a person’s spirit is often embodied in their attitude, actions and achievements. Most of all, it is embodied in the way they behave towards other people.
Imagine that you are looking at a specific person. When doing so, it can be important to bear in your mind your own philosophy and any potential prejudices. It can therefore be useful to try to be considered and:
To mainly focus on the person’s behaviour
and how it may affect other people.
Let’s assume that you are taking this approach. If appropriate, you may do the following exercise when aiming to describe a specific person’s spirit.


Different people use the describing a person’s spirit approach in different situations. Here are some of the most common ways.
Some people use this approach to make sense of their own feelings regarding how they react to a certain person. They may do this in their personal or professional lives.
Some people use this approach in their professional life when making decisions about whether to hire or promote a person. They also use it when deciding whether they want to continue to employ a person.
Some people use this approach when focusing on themselves. They ask: ‘What is the kind of spirit that I want to demonstrate? How can I do this in my life and work?’
